About The Writers


EDITOR-IN-CHIEF: Sanaa Msemaji is a writer, filmmaker, and social-justice advocate. A proud California native, she speaks 1.5 languages, enjoys reading, traveling (she’s been to 19 countries, so far), mimosa’s, Cuban coffee, and monopoly. She founded MilagroGrande Films, a non-profit film company dedicated to exploring films on social-justice issues in 2004, she recently developed an after-school program called, Hip-Hop 2 Hollywood that teaches high school and middle school kids how to use film & music as an avenue to create social-justice, and is working towards completion of Take Me Home, a documentary film on children in foster care. In addition, she is also working on a full-length screenplay, 2 short screenplays, and a novel. She currently resides in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn.

CONTRIBUTING AUTHORS

Deshant Paul is a freelance writer who lives in Brooklyn. He has had articles published in NYArts Magazine and throughout the web. Deshant was trained at NYU in most writing mediums including: playwriting, short fiction, poetry, and prose. He is currently working on a graphic novel for the web and a screenplay about not going home again. Deshant has been working on his craft for over 10 years and continues to do so.



Shawn K. Alexander is an artist, writer and filmmaker who works to create stories with paint, words and films that meet at the Pan-African crossroads of history, family & identity. He co-wrote the award-winning indie feature, August The First, distributed via Filmmovement.com, and co-produced the play RAW LOVE, which ran at the Theater for the New City in December 2008. He’s currently developing an animation TV & web series via Gruntled Entertainment, LLC.
